Hardware Limitations

Digital Camera

While digital cameras offer many advantages, such as large amounts of storage space and being able to preview photos, they also have limitations. The main limitations of digital cameras are; durability, battery consumption and complexity. In order to increase the durability of the camera, the user needs to be aware of the climate in which they use it in, as they are sensitive to heat, extreme cold and moisture. If they are used in such climates they may malfunction and therefore become useless. They may also malfunction if they are dropped as some of the parts inside of the camera may break easily. Digital cameras tend to have a low battery life due to faster battery consumption. This can cause problems to the user as they will have to carry a few spare batteries around with them whenever they are using their digital camera. If they don’t have spare batteries and the batteries in their camera run out then it cannot be used. Some people, such as older people and people not interested in technology, may find using a digital camera complex. They may not know how to change settings or use certain features. They may also find that the instruction that they are provided with are too complicated as they may contain technical language that they are not familiar with.

Graphics Tablet

There are a number of limitations that a user faces when using a graphics tablet. Using a graphics tablet to draw can at times be a considerably slower process than using paper. This is because as the graphics tablet is touch sensitive it may lose calibration from time to time. This means that if the user touches the pen in a particular part of the screen it may be picked up somewhere else on the screen due to the calibration. While the calibration can be easily fixed, through the settings on the tablet, it can become annoying for users to have to re-calibrate on a regular basis. Graphics tablets with larger screens can be quite expensive. While some users can use the cheaper, smaller screen others may need to buy the more expensive models as they need more space if they are working on an important project for work or school. Some users have also complained about the mouse which is provided with the graphics tablets. Some say that it feels awkward and therefore impacts the quality of their work.

Scanner

While scanners can be useful both at home and at work they also have a few limitations. Some scanners may produce poor quality documents. This can be because of factors such as; lens quality, how clean the scanner glass is and the condition of the original document. Scanners can also be quite expensive to maintain. Regular checks need to be made on the lens and the camera inside the scanner. If either of these are damaged they can be expensive to replace. Users will need to take time into consideration when using a scanner to scan a large amount of paperwork as they are relatively slow. Also, after each page is scanned, the user will have to check the page to make sure that the entire document was scanned and that no part is missing.
Monitor

Flat panel computer monitors are becoming more and more popular than the traditional monitors. However, they have some disadvantages when it comes to durability, colour and price. A lot of people leave their computer monitors on whenever they are not using them. This can cause the monitor to lose its brightness and it will therefore need to be replaced more often. Flat panel computer monitors have less quality in terms of colour than traditional monitors. While to the average person they have similar colour quality, experts have said that traditional monitors have better and more durable colour quality. Due to flat panel monitors being newer than other monitors, it is no surprise that they are more expensive. They can range from £100 for a basic monitor to over £1,000 for a more advanced model.
